Cocktail design experiments with Erik Hobijn in “Chemo Bar” at RIXC Media Space 11. Novembra krastmala 35 (entrance form Minsterejas street), 20:00 – 02:00. Programme: smoking Frankenstein-style cocktails.
“Chemistry bar” is made out of actual elements and materials of a bar and it functions as a regular bar (you can have a drink here), but it looks quite extraordinary (with its test-tubes, alembics, emphasized hyperreality and ritual atmosphere it rather resembles a theatrical laboratory, Frankenstein style). The artist himself describes it: “”Chemistry bar” is not a poetic artistic message, neither a representation of reality. It is not a theoretical laboratory but a real one – we serve fuming cocktails in test-tubes, experimenting with drinks and the audience.”
Eric Hobijn is a Dutch artist now living and working in Berlin. He is known for his open-air performances with live fire and mechanism constructions made for this purpose. His most popular pieces are Delusions of Self-Immolation (1993) and Dante Organ (1998). His Fire Whistling Organ was demonstrated on AB dam in Riga at the opening of RIXC festival “Art+Communication 4” in 2000.
