Artist: Aigars Bikše
On a 4 metre high base stands a 3.5 metre high inflatable fabric figure. Every two minutes a fan turns on and off – the figure inflates and takes the shape of a figurative sculpture, then sags again, taking the shape of a flattened sack.
The poetic truth
History is changing constantly, just like memories. This object marks the ceaseless mutual change of two positions. A citizen of the modern times is usually well-versed in the traditions of democracy, with a tendency to doubt, to view the world in a critical and analytical way. In our era of information exchange pathetic figures are perceived as leftovers of history. Nevertheless an idea of an enthusiastic and inspiring personality still exists. Every visitor of “Idealist. A two-minute cycle of historical justice.” will have an opportunity to create a monument to this abstract leader – fill the figure with air and create a hero for himself/herself or deflate it and refuse the idealist image.
