“PICNIC: illusory visions” invites you to stop wandering through Riga for a moment, watch a vision, have a snack and drink and then set out on your way again and keep on enjoying the magic of the mysterious city. Different places in Riga will be hosting short film theatres, each with its own particular icing on the cake – they will feature various musical and artistic activities as well as picnics with interesting food, conversations, new friends…

Cafeteria „Gauja” (Tērbatas street 56) will be screening avant-garde and underground art performances by NSRD and Hardijs Lediņš, provided by Ineta Sipunova. Here you can stretch your legs on the dancefloor, witness the opening of Matīss Baušķenieks’ book “Benedict” and take the floor at the free microphone. The feeling of picnic will be backed by pilaf from the huge frying-pan.

On the corner of Baznīcas and Lāčplēša street, at the gift shop “Muhamors” and restaurant-bar “Lidojumam labvēlīgs laiks” is a place where surreal bohemian life will flourish during White Night. Movie screenings in the backyard, buskers and portrait artists to keep up the feeling of the art of life, and a picnic with food cooked in a tagine (Moroccan cooking pot) by the ceramist Dace Draveniece.

Close to Līvu square (Laipu street 5), outside the souvenir shop Nice Place there will be a screen with a film program about the life of Livs, inhabitants of Latvia in ancient times, their culture, everyday life and dreams before and now. A Liv youngster folk group will be making music for everyone’s enjoyment, and Valts and Zane Ernštreits will treat party guests with traditional Liv delicacies.

On the Albert square open-air terrace of social club Space Dog (Vecpilsētas street 19) there will be a screening of political, critical and student short films selected by Vents Grīnbaums and Gunita Trikuma. Also a picnic market will be operating on the square – buy and trade interesting and original handmade items. Everyone will be welcome to take part in a jam session, so either take your instruments with you, make them out of whatever is at hand or buy something in the market. Space Dog picnic special – solyanka.
